PALS Facility Dog Austin

I was born November 12, 2009 at the secluded PALS headquarters in Forestville, CA. I go by the name of Austin Powers, but other than my name, I don’t share anything with the colorful British double agent. Well… that might be a lie. My long, flowing, shiny coat makes me pretty darn irresistible.

Anyway, I am a golden retriever with a very important mission. My official job title is Facility Dog. I officially graduated as a PALS Facility Dog on September 11, 2011. Impressed? Although I like to play hard on my downtime, I love to work hard. My boss Michelle Chastain, a Speech Language Pathologist at The Swain Center, makes me part of her therapy sessions. I love my job. My specialties are helping children and adults feel more comfortable, reducing anxiety associated with speaking, motivational and behavioral support and shaking, snuggling, and speaking. I’m also good at sleeping and looking out my office window. Not to toot my own horn or anything but, from what I’ve heard, I do fantastic work. All that training certainly paid off.

Okay, now you know I work hard, but what about playing hard? I do that really well too! I am the best kiddie pool diver in Sonoma County with a rather impressive jump. I make a BIG splash. I also like to play with my brother Andy. He will be the first PALS service dog graduate. I am so proud of him.

In my downtime, I snuggle with my favorite toy. Shhhhhhhh! It is my stuffed pink piggy. Are you jealous or what? I also enjoy long walks in Armstrong Woods and playing in the surf at Doran Beach. Did I mention my birth date? I really like presents.

So, you see… I have a good life. I get plenty of treats, hugs and kisses. So long for now, but don’t worry, this message will not self destruct.
